Would you like to join the ‘Holistic Book Club’ in Haywards Heath?

Written by Robert Sanders. Posted in Book Club

Do you enjoy reading and learning about alternative therapies and personal development?  Would you like to learn more and share ideas with other like-minded people?

A group of therapists at Vinings Natural Health Centre in Haywards Heath have decided to launch a new alternative therapy based book club.

Over the course of meetings we will look at books in a wide variety of fields. The choice of which books and subjects we cover will be very much up to you.

The club will hold its first meeting in Cafe Rouge on Tuesday 15 October 2019 at 10.00 a.m. The aim of the alternative book club is to read selected titles from a variety of fields in self help and alternative therapy.

To kick it off we will be reading the classic: “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A practical guide to the fulfillment of your dreams” by Deepak Chopra .  It would be fantastic if you could get hold of a copy before the meeting. Maybe you could have a go at some of the practical exercises so that you can begin to form an opinion.  Don’t worry if you haven’t finished it by the time you come though. We’re sure you’ll still enjoy the meeting.

The club will also be attended by Vinings therapists, Julia Biggs, Caroline Burton, Robert Sanders and Carole Thornton.

If you are interested in attending the first meeting then do please sign up through our Facebook Event, or send an email to info@viningsnaturalhealthcentre.co.uk

The event is free of charge, and you can purchase tea, coffee or cake at the Cafe. There is no requirement to make a purchase.

So why not  sign-up and order your copy of the book. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 15 October at Cafe Rouge in Haywards Heath at 10 a.m.

Are you keeping in touch? The basic need for intimacy.

Written by Robert Sanders. Posted in Basic Human Needs, Blog

need for intimacy represented by children touching handsIn general, we all have a basic need to have connection with others. While there are a few exceptions, such as those on the autistic spectrum, the need for intimacy on some level is vital to our mental, emotional and physical well-being. This is why, for most people, solitary confinement or exclusion are such painful and cruel punishments.

If you are not fulfilling your need for intimacy, you are highly likely to experience some level of depression and anxiety.

How do I fulfill my need for intimacy?

Many of us are lucky enough to have a partner or a spouse, with whom we can share intimate moments. From a gentle touch on the arm, to kissing and sexual intercourse, we are fortunate to be able to deeply fulfill our need for intimacy. This may seem the ideal, but even if you live alone, it is still possible to improve this area of your life. It is also true to say that relationships with a loved one may not always be running at their best, and the intimacy that once was there, may now be less.

Weight Loss: 2 Therapists, 2 Approaches

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

One of the (many!) lovely things about Vinings Natural Health Centre is the range of treatments and therapies you can enjoy under one roof.

Often, there is more than one approach to a particular condition or issue, and we are holding a series of informal talks over the next few months to highlight this aspect of our work. In each case, two of our practitioners will talk about their approach to the same issue.

Our first talk is on Wednesday 15th March, 10am – 11.30am, at Vinings, and the topic is Weight Loss.
Nutritional Therapist Darshika Bower (left) will show you how you can kickstart your health, energy and weight loss through eating foods that balance your blood sugar.
Hypnotherapist and Past Life Regression Therapist Judy Sharp (right) will outline a more alternative approach, including Hypnotic Gastric Banding.

Places for the talk are limited, so if you would like to come along, please contact Darshika or Judy to book your place – there’s no charge, we’d just like to know how many (healthy) refreshments to provide!

Cranio Sacral Therapy – what happens during a session?

Written by Caroline Burton. Posted in Blog

Vinings is delighted to welcome Lisa Moore, an experienced Cranio Sacral Therapist, to the team of practitioners working from the lovely relaxed surroundings of Vinings Natural Health Centre.

Lisa explains what to expect from a typical session:

“We will always start with a written case history, this allows me to understand the exact reasons for your visit, and this is really important. Typically the session lasts between 40 – 50 minutes, although this can vary. You remain clothed, and will usually lie face up, but if this is uncomfortable you can lie on your side or you may be seated.

I will make light contact with your head, the base of your spine, and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs. Sometimes you will feel as if I am moving your head, arms or legs but it should all feel natural and comfortable, there is never any force applied. Because the body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur – remember the song: your hip bones connected to your thigh bone? Well, everything is connected, so an issue in your neck could be related to a sprained ankle that happened a long time ago. I know it sounds odd but our bodies are very good at bringing us back to “normality” and if this means that you stand slightly twisted as that eases a pain on your ankle, then this will form a habit that may eventually manifest as neck pain!

After a session there is occasionally a short period of adjustment as part of the healing process, where you may become more aware of symptoms. Sometimes people report relief after one one or two sessions: this was certainly true for me when I started having CRT! For long-standing problems, further sessions may be needed, and many people report that they benefit from regular treatent – think of it as a regular MOT! They say that, as well as noticing improvement in their physical or emotional symptoms, they feel that they have more awareness of their own needs and strengths, and their quality of life has improved.”
